Great 40th Anniversary Edition

This has the long version of Susie Q on it. C.C.R. reminds me of my father, he had good taste in his music. He had most of C.C.R. on vinyl. He played the hell out of this one. I like it a lot 5/5

First album with John C Fogerty at the helm. From the opening track, you know he meant business. Underground covers of Susie Q, the full version here, and his own contributions, remastered and expanded with bonus tracks, which is a special feature on all 6 studio albums re released since Fantasy records was finally sold., ending the constant repackaging of the hits throughout the 70''s. 80''s and 90''s.

It may sound tepid now, but at the time of it''s release, it caused a minor earthquake, quickly followed by the 2nd release, Bayou Country. which created an all out Tsunami. There are no ''hits'' per se, but alot of now classics. To me, hearing this when it came out, it is still an unpretentious classic, as are all of the albums in the CCr cannon, save for Mardi Gras......more on that later.

Hint" this could make a great gift for your grandparents and a boatload of memories for the aging baby boomers......sigh.....toss this in my coffin before you close the lid.......

This LP has gone in and out of my collections since it came out in 1968. This is probably the cleanest pressing, and the half speed mastering delivers on detail and crispness. Bass is superb: Stu Cook shines on this disk. But alas, I can tell they mastered this from old analog tape, which slowly demagnetizes over time. So what is missing is the sense of room sound, of transparency, that I heard on the first pressing but has been missing from all reissues. It''s satisfying and good value for the money, but if you want the full experience you will have to pay a lot more for an original pressing -- or get lucky at Goodwill.

We all know what a great album this is. As far as this pressing goes it isn''t perfect. A great pressing would be dead quiet in the dead wax. Mine had ticks throughout. The clarity of this remaster is good but it doesn''t sound THAT much better than my original first pressing. As far as the packaging goes I could barely read the linear notes on the back & the cover photo slightly fuzzy. Neither of those are a problem with my original copy. All in all it''s a good but not amazing pressing. The music gets five stars, this particular pressing get two.

Great CCR album. This is a replacement for the vinyl album that I bought back in the early 70s which was lost in one of my numerous moves. Bought the CD years ago but is just not the same. This completes my CCR vinyl collection.

I really liked this album when it first came out. I think I like it even more now after hearing this 40th anniversary version. John Fogerty sings with such raw emotion and energy. The whole band really grooves together and the songs are really cool. I didn''t think I would be that crazy about hearing a live version of Susie Q, but this is an amazing recording and Fogerty goes nuts on the guitar the bonus tracks all sound really good, and they fit in nicely with the original material. This music is timeless. I can honestly say that I think it sounds better now than it did when it first came out.

The original line up of Creedence Clearwater Revival are one of those bands that never made a bad album or an album that even came close to being sub par. They did however release an album that wasn''t as good as the rest and that is their debut self titled album. Creedence Clearwater Revival was originally released in May of 1968 and features eight tracks in total. Amongst those eight tracks are fan favourites like I Put A Spell On You, a cover of Screamin'' Jay Hawkins, a rendition of Suzie Q. Amongst the set of songs is two tracks re-recorded from a previous band formation. There''s four bonus tracks in total, Call It Pretending, a b-side of Porterville, an outtake recording of Bo Diddley''s Before You Accuse Me and two live tracks. These are nice editions to the record but not mandatory listening. The original album still sounds great today. It was originally produced by Saul Zaentz, an interesting character in the band and John Fogerty''s life. Worth a read if you have time. As a remaster, this 2008 edition sounds so much better than the old copy I had. This version is more true to the vinyl LPs I have listened to time and again. They have good bass and mids with the highs not going into ear piercing territory like old copies. I do feel the drums don''t quite have enough punch for my cup of tea. It feels a little thin compared to later albums. But it certainly isn''t badly produced and has aged rather well. It wouldn''t take much for me to recommend all the other Creedence Clearwater Revival albums over this one (Mardi Gras does NOT count!). They are better albums in so many ways. But as it is, this is still a very good album and a great start to a fantastic six album run. It is definitely a worthy buy, especially if you plan on picking up the rest of the band''s discography.

I am afraid most (all?) reviewers have mistaken this album as the first nameless/self titled album by Creedence in 1967 but it is NOT the case. So therefor their written experiences and judgements are false. What this, unofficial, release has to offer is threesome: 7 live tracks, in a strange order, presumable from the concert in april 1970 in Great Britain, though I am not sure about that (remember: when the live album from Creedence, "In Concert", was offered this was firstly released as "Live at the Royal Albert Hall", which was a mistake, the recorded concert was given months earlier in Oakland, California), the finale of "Keep On Chooglin''" is similar to that song on that particular album. Plus a DVD with the same tracks. Plus a well documented booklet by an anonymous author, well informed, who only reveals he (she?) is living in France. I am blowing away by his knowledge of two later (1972/1973) solo singles by John Fogerty which I didn''t knew about, so I am thankful about that to say the least. Most important of course are those live tracks, but the let down is that they are only a part of the whole show. Considering the "In Concert" album the set list by that time, when "Cosmo''s Factory" album was already in the can and spawned a single "Travelin Band" / "Who''ll Stop the Rain" consisted of about 14 songs. The sound quality is not very good, but listenable. Maybe the band didn''t plan to record this performance for an album release. But for an historical musical document it is fitting and appropriate. Besides the "In Concert" , which was released in 1980, some 10 years after CCR disbanded, was this for a long time to only live material of the band as quartet. The "Live in Europe" (1973) captures the band a trio. After exactly 50 years (!) the "Live at Woodstock" performance sees the daylight. So there you have it: a rare live performance, all be it the half of the show, on CD/DVD and a book(let) which showcases the history of Creedence Clearwater Revival, long before the band took that name, and after the demise, from the solo efforts of each member, ill the John Fogerty album "Deja Vu All Over Again". A good and interesting read, even for those who think they know about these musicians the most parts. As so much strongly recommended.

This album is brilliant, has a couple of covers on it and there done really well, especialy the opening track I Put A Spell On You. Its definitely worth getting the 40th anniversary edition with the bonus tracks. I went on and bought the next five studio albums after this one (and again, get the 40th anniversary editions if you can, its worth it for the bonus songs) making it 6 albums in total and it got better and better.
